Nigara Hamono Blue Super Migaki Tsuchime Bunka 180mm - Ebony
$177.00 USD
Unit price / perShare
Blade Type
The Bunka knife, a versatile and traditional Japanese kitchen tool, features a distinctive, angular tip and a wide blade. It's designed for precision tasks like slicing, dicing, and chopping. Ideal for handling vegetables, meat, and fish, the Bunka is a multifunctional knife celebrated for its utility and unique aesthetic.
Steel Type
Japanese Blue Super Steel, an elite variant of the "Aogami" series, is a high-carbon steel alloyed with chromium, tungsten, and added vanadium. This composition enhances its wear resistance, edge retention, and overall toughness. It will still rust if left wet for too long, but not as quickly as any of the other carbon steels. Favored in fine knife crafting, Blue Super Steel is renowned for producing exceptionally sharp and durable Japanese knives.
Recommended Maintenance
Store it in a dry environment using magnetic strips, knife rolls, or sayas. Avoid hitting hard or frozen objects and twisting the blade while cutting. These knives are not dishwasher safe. Clean with hot water and a soft cloth, and dry immediately after use to prevent rust spots on the high carbon steel. For more information please read the blog below.

Knife Care
This knife is made from a high-carbon steel and as such, will require a little more care than a regular off-the-shelf knife. It must be dried shortly after use, as prolonged exposure to moisture can cause rust spots to appear. A very light coat of oil during storage also helps to prevent rust spots. A patina (colouration and seasoning of the steel) will occur with use.
Nigara Hamono Blue Super Migaki Tsuchime Bunka 180mm - Ebony
I have always wanted a Japanese knife. I chose this knife for its more traditional carbon core steel, its more rounded tip among the Bunkas so that I can rock with it abit and its stainless clad so easier to maintain. The blade is absolutely beautiful and the K-tip makes it look even more incredible. I sharpened the blade, just a little touch up and its now screaming sharp. I could never have imagined how it cuts. Japanese knives are on another level entirely and apparently this is not even a laser. The knife is 4 grams lighter than my Wüsthof 6“ classic chefs knife so the weight is absolutely perfect for my liking. The blade lenght is 166mm which is very important to know but I knew that from other reviews, the 180mm comes if you measure from where the blade comes out of the handle.I believe I have chosen very well, my new main in the kitchen. Thank you, I highly recommend this knife to anyone. Bunka is my new favourite blade shape.
Fantastic knife very sharp out of teh box. Edge is sublime. This Bunka has fast become my favorite knife. I have a bunch of high end Japanese steel in my drawers and this is now the go to for general chopping slicing and all around chef work. Very balanced and has good size and weight. Thicker spine than many of my other Gyuto and santoku’s Highly recommend
This has good balance, slightly weighted towards the finger choil, making for a knife that feels light.
Sharpness out of the box was very good and the Blue Super seems to be holding its edge nicely.
The blade profile is a bit different. There’s a slightly longer flat section flowing into a more pronounced curve up to the tip. In my opinion this makes for a versatile cutter which can do many tasks well.
The blade is very sharp, the knife is perfectly balance and it's easy to use. You're like slicing a butter
